Round 1 2007
Heaven
Round 1 Bulahdelah March 10/11
Race Report
The first round
of the Heaven VMX 2007 series was run on March 10 &11, on the Grass
Track at Bulahdelah.
What was looking to be a possible repeat of last
year's Crawford River Classic with two weeks of rain before the
event didn't eventuate. The rain stopped on Thursday and a
turnaround in temperatures saw a warm day on Saturday with some
great practice riding on both the motocross track and the grass
track. Practice day saw riding on the grass track in both directions
to the satisfaction of all riders. On Sunday, 2 rounds of racing
kicked off at 9.45 am. The first morning round was in an anti
clockwise direction and for round two in the afternoon racing was in
the opposite direction, a real change to the regular format.
The meeting ran smoothly and we saw some great
battles in many events and thankfully only a minor spill in one
early race, our medicos weren't bothered for the rest of the day,
which is the way we like it. Thanks to all those who helped out on
the day your assistance made the day great.
It was great to welcome many keen new members to the club and we
look forward to their participation in future rounds of our 2007
series
Some riders came out of the corner fighting and
stamped an early authority in their class. Race 1 saw John Zarro
take a comfortable win in pre-78 Open. A rapid rise through the
field in race 3 pre70/ pre-78 250 came to an unfortunate end with a
minor error resulting in a fairly heavy thump into the ground just
as he was challenging for the lead. John sat out the rest of the
program, but guaranteed will be a force in the pre-78 classes for
the remainder of the series.
Riders to take maximum points in their both their
class races were Neville Shepheard in pre-70, Greg Bilton in pre-75
Open, Martin Russell in pre-85 only and Peter Nyburg in four stroke.
Other notable results, from riders who only just
missed the double were Noel Lewis and Neville who traded wins in
Classic 125, new member Paul Gers in Post Classic 125, Kel Moore and
Fernando Franco in pre-75 250, and Carl Bletcher in Evo 250.
Consistent rides and Maico reliability sees Rodger Starkey now lead
both pre-78 250 and pre-78 Open.
A special thank you goes to Greg and Christine
Davidson who travelled from north of Armidale to be the Steward and
Clerk for the race meeting.
