HEAVEN Round 7 2007

Clarence Cliff Hanger

Grand Final 11 November 2007

With one round and double points up for grabs, the final Heaven race meeting for the year produced a frenzied assault for end of year honours on the exciting little track in the Blue Mountains, west of Sydney. While some classes had already been decided, a few had come down to the wire. Even those which had a series victor proclaimed still had a battle raging for the 2nd or 3rd place trophies.

He had been the dominant rider in both the Evo and pre-85 categories all season and Damien Crane made no mistake in taking first or second place in all four races he contested to win these categories for the year. This domination of these classes saw him gain the Heaven number one plate for the year. This came after a run of back luck at a round or two which saw him gain fifth position in the title chase for 2006. Congratulations Damien on a well deserved title.

A most hotly contested category was the four-stroke class. The battle here was between point score leader Ricki Atkins and the hard charging Australian Capital Territorian, Dennis Myers. Paul Corbett won his first race since joining Heaven, Dennis got second and Ricki fourth. Shoes were off as fingers and toes were counted confirming Ricki the overall series victor by a narrow margin. Ricki knew this of course as he celebrated over the finish line tabletop with what was probably the biggest air seen all day.

Other notable performances were put in by Kel Moore, taking out both pre-75 250 and Open races and the championships, Mark Birkett doing the same in pre-78, ditto Noel Lewis in Classic 125 and Paul Gers in Post Classic 125. Paul's giant killing YZ125H also "stole" a pair of wins in pre-85 Open and pre-85 Only from Damien. They won't come that easily next year, when he steps up to a 250 and along with rapidly improving youngster Ryan Schmidt will make the pointy end of Evo 250 a crowded place.

The pre-70 boys got at it too, Rodger Starkey keeping all parts of the CZ 360 in the position they started the race in to take the win. Neville Shepherd's second place ensured him the title for the year.

The free BBQ , social activities and Flag Marshals Draw Prizes were well received by all present over the weekend.

A big thankyou must go out to the long distance travellers who put in the extra hard yards to attend a meeting, we had member representations from, Bill Tuckwell Merimbula, Mark Birkett Snowy Mtns, Paul Gers Muswellbrook ,John Zarro Glen Innes and Greg ,Christine , Jarrad and Amy Davidson our roving Steward, Clerk and Junior riders travelled down from Wallabadah, north of Tamworth NSW , just to say Hi , look at the track and give a hand on the BBQ ,that's friendship and dedication.

Once again it was a great team effort by all there, whether preparing food, manning the BBQ, lap scoring, doing the start or flagging - thanks to all the members and their families who helped out. Finally, special thanks to our Steward Leon Sayer, first aid attendant David and last but not least, the Lower Blue Mountains Motorcycle Club for allowing HEAVEN to use this great venue.

Roll On 2008.
