Round 2 - 15 April 2007
A Capital Performance
A healthy field of sixty odd riders fronted for
the latest Heaven VMX round at Fairbairn Park in the A.C.T.
A leisurely five-hour practice session on Saturday
afternoon was long forgotten by 10.00am Sunday when race faces were
firmly affixed and the serious stuff got underway.
Once again Damien Crane was at the fore in Pre-85
and Evo classes and Mark Birkett saw off most contenders in Pre-78.
Damien also gave the regulars a shake up in Post Classic 125. Kel
Moore and Fernando Franco diced for Pre-75 honours. Jens Olsen made
a return to the Heaven fold and kept the Classic 125 boys honest and
finished in style by taking a win in the final race of the day.
Nathan Senior proved you don't necessarily have to have the top bike
of the era by hanging on to all the Classic 125 regulars on his
trusty DT125.
There was some exciting and intense action in the
Evo 250 and Open races and to the credit of the riders they all came
away without a scratch. The first aid staff didn't even have to open
a band-aid on the day, which was a great result for all riding.
As usual the ACTMCC committee and general members
gave Heaven fantastic support over the weekend. Leading the charge
were Club Secretary, BBQ manager and Steward for the day Allen
McNiece, Clerk of Course Andrew Campbell and grounds & camping area
manager and storyteller Dennis Myers.
Heaven are next visiting Fairbairn again on
September 22/23, so whatever you do - don't miss it.
The next round, however, will be at Glenbawn Dam
on May 19/20 - details will be available shortly.
