Round 3 - 19/20 May 2007
Glorious Glenbawn
They say your memory fades with age, but how could
we forget how good this place is? In our first visit since 2005, old
members and new got their fix on one of the best vintage tracks you
can race on.
Two clear, sunny autumn days provided just the
best atmosphere for an afternoon of practice on Saturday followed by
two rounds of racing on Sunday. The surrounding postcard scenery and
great camping facilities has this event definitely back on the
calendar for future seasons.
Racing got underway with the older era bikes
first; Jeremy Ireland, Jens Olsen and Mark Birkett leading the way
in pre-75, classic 125 and pre-78. Then the Evo and pre-85's hit the
track, with Damien Crane again proving unstoppable. Carl Blecher and
Gavin Martini took up the challenge on the bigger bores, while Paul
Gers kept watch on Post Classic 125. The boys fought hard, but fair
and everyone came away with mile wide smiles at the end of the day's
racing. Dennis Myers filled in for Fernando, who wasn't there,
firstly by doing scrutineering in his absence, which was very much
appreciated and then by trying to ride in every race!
Upper Hunter MCC President Eric Rogers provided us
with a great facility and we are in debt to his dedication to the
sport that allows Clubs like ours to be able to use this venue.
Likewise, we thank Greg and Christine Davidson, our hands-on Steward
and Clerk of Course, who as always provide unfailing assistance and
guidance in keeping the show on the road. Jenny and Greg Cole from
Hastings Mcc drove all the way from Port Macquarie to officiate for
the Saturday practice day. Thanks for all your help and assistance
when we were stuck without officials.
As usual Narelle and Kel were scurrying around
like possums on speed keeping the canteen running. Narelle
unfortunately missed all her races, putting her back out just before
the start of her first race when kicking the AW over. She hobbled
away, didn't take the recommended lie down and then ran the canteen
for the day! Kel too, unselfishly missed races to keep things
moving. From all the riders - thank you for the day and your
efforts. We hope you get well soon Narelle.
So primed from Glenbawn, it's on to Mt Kembla near Wollongong for
Round Four, a one-day meeting on June 17. More details will be
available in the coming weeks
